From the Coaching Corner

Hello to all!
What a year it's been! AWS started out with one coach, now we have expanded our professional network to join forces with D3 Multisport (based out of Colorado), we have hired a new associate coach, Vic Brown, from BU (see below) and we have added a new family member (see picture)

Ali and Vic are now both training athletes at Joint Ventures for group sessions and private sessions. All of Ali's coaching athletes have taken advantage of this training option, and all are enjoying an injury free season! For more information on how you can join in the group or private training sessions, see www.aliwinslowsports.com OR contact Ali or Vic directly.

Congratulations to all athletes for their accomplishments this season. We had 5 athletes race at Ironman Lake Placid, 3 first timers who all exceeded their expectations and 1 athlete saw a PR by 48 minutes! AWS raced sprints, Olympic distance and Half Ironmans, with many athletes posting PR's and age group wins. 2 AWS athletes raced on the other side of the globe in the Gobi Desert as the youngest team to race in the "racing the planet" series, while their mother not only volunteered for the Gobi March, but is racing herself in the Sahara Desert in October.

AWS is now supporting Infinit Nutrition Products, which athletes can purchase right on the www.aliwinslowsports.com website (for a discount), also athletes have discounts on any D3 Mutlisport sponsors (fuelbelt, blue seventy wetsuit, hammer nutrition, Rudy Project, GURU).

Vic Brown to Join Boston Performance Coaching

Current Boston University associate strength and conditioning coach Vic Brown will join Ali Winslow Sports as an assistant coach. Brown is a USA Triathlon Honorable Mention All-American and national championship qualifying triathlete at both the Olympic and Half Ironman distances, competing for the Minuteman Road Club, a cycling and triathlon club located in the Metrowest region of Massachusetts.

Brown brings a vast range of knowledge and experience to AWS, currently as the Volunteer Head Coach for the Boston University Triathlon Team. He will begin his fifth year at Boston University where he has worked with the women’s basketball, women’s soccer, swimming, diving, softball, wrestling, and cross country programs. Brown helped coach an athlete to a top 100 overall finish at Ironman USA in Lake Placid in 2008 and has previously coached a USA Triathlon Honorable Mention All-American. He holds dual certifications by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Athletic Training Association, and will earn his USA Triathlon Level 1 certification in October. As well, Brown has been a featured author on the topic of endurance training for both Triathlete Magazine and most recently in the September 2008 issue of New England Sports Magazine.

Vic offers basic, elite, and professional levels of coaching services as well as private and semi-private training and consulting. He is available Monday through Friday morning. Alternate times by appointment only. If you are interested in services that are not listed, or you would like additional information, Vic can be contacted at vbrown@bu.edu or at 973-222-5429.
